Requirements

Eligible sponsor

An Italian citizen, EU citizen registered as resident, or non-EU citizen with a valid long-term Italian residence permit.

Qualifying relationship

Spouse or registered partner; minor children; adult dependent children; parents over 65 with no support in their home country.

Suitable housing & income

The sponsor must prove adequate housing certified by the local municipality and income above the dependent threshold.

The sponsor in Italy applies for the family-reunification authorization at the Sportello Unico.

Authorization issued

Once approved, the nulla osta is forwarded to the consulate that serves the family member abroad.

Consular interview

The family member files for the visa at the Italian consulate; biometric and supporting documents required.

Arrival & permit

On arrival in Italy, convert the visa into a residence permit for family reasons.
